Parents and other volunteers can be asked to do many of the jobs of the library assistant - see library assistant job description (link) - as well has help with library events and activities throughout the year.  Encouraging parents to read with their children is key in the reading development of the child, and so asking parents to work with an experienced librarian will have the added value of involving them in their own children's reading.
